Hurikamui Horonobe Snowkite Endurance Race

What’s Hurikamui Horonobe

Hurikamui is the name of Ainu (north island aborigine)’s mythology monster bird.
Race spot is Salobetsu marsh in Holonobe town. Huge kites for snowkite seems
similar with this legendary bird. So we named our race “Hurikamui”.

Horonobe town , Hokkaido in front of Horonobe visitor center
we make 7~9km triangle course. Participants laps 5 times this course.

Even for top scorer complete time would be 2.5 to 3 hours.
FIeld is almost flat , no serious obstacles it’s not so difficult to ride here itself.
But if you want to finish all course in time you need certain skill!
This race design provide for all level of riders to challenge and push their limit.
Race would held third weekend of February during 4 days (Race are mid 2 days).

History and Result

FIrst race was 2018 February 23rd to 24th. There was 1 race total 35km on 23rd. 2 participants completed course in time.

Hurikamui 2019
2nd race was held 2019 Februray 21st to 24th. There were 1 full size 45km race and 3 sprint races. At first day Ueda won the first full size (45km) race, maked 30minutes difference against 2nd and 3rd. Because of strong and violent wind 2nd day was sprint day. Course is 3.6 km triangle short. Ueda won all these 3 races and makes perfect win on this event.

Unfortunately unusual warmer condition we had to quit 3rd Hurikamui on 2020. And because of Covid-19 shock we coudn’t restart the race until 2025.

Hurikamui 2025 (4th)
2025 February 21st Hurikamui strikes back! there was 45km full size race on 22nd, and 12.8 km shorter race was held. At first day Qentin took good advantage of the course. Then made longest distance of the day. But because of wind drops nor one couldn’t compete the course. Next 2nd day because of foggy forecast race was 12.8 km short course. But still it’s very difficult foggy and light wind condition only Ueda could make a goal in time.
